I want to know on what TDS is applicable how can itmay be defined

TDS is Tax Deducted at Source. It is the income tax that your bank or your employer deduct from your interest, income or your salary right before giving the amount to you. This tax then goes to the income tax dept.

Its deducted on payments made u/s 194 of the income tax act. The types of payments include salary, rent, contractor payment, dividend payment, professional fees ,Interest , lotteries and so on.

Dear All, Attachment has complete detail on applicability of TDS. A correction. TDS on professional is should be read as 10%+Surcharge+Cess. Hope this will clarify the point. rgds vishwanath
