MIS report is governed by the need of the management and the type of information available.

There can be no fixed format. However, the following can be used as guidelines for making a MIS Format:

1. This is meant to give information about the act ivies of certain Unit or Division or the whole Organisation.

2. It is mostly based on actual figures, both in monitory terms and/ or in units. Store data and data meant for production are ,more likely to be in units while sales and purpose can be both in units and in Amount where as the MIS related to cost centers like accounts department or Hr can be only in amount. Though this may not be a rule.

3. Generally absolute figures are difficult to interpret so we can show the budgeted amount (if available) and/ or previous period amount so that trend or other inferences can be gained.

4. The last column can depict the variance preferable from budgeted figure or last period figures.

5. We may add note explaining the reason of variance/ deviations in the report above. Notes may also include significant or important incidents which may be useful for the user of MIS or the management.
