Dear Sir / Madam,
we want to know the eligibility amount to pay service tax .
we are planing to start the service based company, and turnover is not yet known. In this case is it necessary to apply for ST Number? Please advice

hi Service tax leviable after ur turnover exceeds Rs. 10,00,000/-. You are require to make application when your turnover is reaches Rs 9,00,000/-.

ST is mandatory when your turnover crosses Rs10lac. However when it reaches Rs.9lakh you need to give declaration and then start charging ST on sales above Rs10lac.
From second year you need to check your SSI eligibility based on past year turnover.
Also you need to see if you are liable under Reverse Charge Mechanism or not. Under Reverse charge your turnover may be nil but still you need to register and make payment of ST and file return as well. (Consult your CA for that)
Whether to take ST registration from DAY 1 or not depends on few factors. Because sometimes it is better to charge service tax from Re1 to avoid ST burden on your input services. This depends on how much taxable input services you are using for providing output service. (Again consult your CA for this)

Registration is required once your Receipts cross 9 lakh. And need to charge on bills once it crosses10 lakh. All sale to be calculated for one year, begining from april and endin on march.
To register just go aces website.
