An accounting entry that represents an entity's obligation to pay off a short-term debt to its creditors. The accounts payable entry is found on a balance sheet under the heading current liabilities.
Accounts payable are often referred to as "payables".
Another common usage of AP refers to a business department or division that is responsible for making payments owed by the company to suppliers and other creditors.

accounts payable means payment due to creditors for goods and services.In simple word these are sundry creditors.

AP nothing but Vendor management, all vendor related work done by Accounts payable dept. P2P [Procure to pay]part of AP Process, work comes under Invoice processing, GR / IR Updation, Payment Processing, Accrued entry etc...
Accounts payable - can be payments to be made against all credit purchases, irrespective of revenue or capital expenses.
Further i am some doubt that the taxes deduction from all payments i.e. Falling under duties & taxes

Accounts payable in simple words is amount payable to any company/firm/person from whom the accounting firm/company has taken anything on credit generally known as Sundry creditors for goods and services.

it is a kind of liabilities to make the payment afterwards. Usually we prepare the statement of account for a period on the basis of mercantile system. Mercantile system mean we have to consider the accrued income and expenditure. if any expenditure has been due but not paid, has to be considered for result purpose. thus expenditure, which has become due but not paid, shall be treated as account payable
